Millennials were raised during the internet's arrival and reached adulthood through 9/11, social media, and the 2008 crash. They are the last cohort with a strong memory of both offline childhood and always-online adulthood.

Generation labels look tidy in a table, but the edges carry real status arguments. A 1996 birth year is usually Millennial in Pew-style boundaries; a 1997 birth year is usually Gen Z. That one-year split changes which recession, phone, school internet, and social-media story people think shaped you.
Cuspers sit within two years of a boundary, so their childhood artifacts often belong to one cohort while their teen or workplace references belong to another. Xennials, Zillennials, Zalphas, and Alpha-Beta cusp kids are useful shorthand, not formal census boxes.
Gen Beta starts in 2025 in this table and runs through 2039. In 2026, its oldest members are still toddlers, so the name is search-first and culturally unresolved: AI toys, ambient assistants, climate adaptation, and whatever becomes normal before they remember it.
The lookup behind this page is strict: each year from 1901 to 2039 belongs to exactly one row below, and anyone within two years of a neighbouring range is flagged as a cusper. The third column adds the year the oldest members of each cohort reached, or will reach, adulthood, which is often the fastest way to sense how far apart two generations really are.

Four boundary stretches have earned their own nicknames, and the finder applies them automatically. Xennials cover 1977 to 1983 on the X and Millennial line, often described as an analog childhood followed by a digital adulthood. Zillennials cover 1993 to 1998 across the Millennial and Z line. Zalphas run 2010 to 2015 between Z and Alpha, and the Alpha to Beta handover from 2023 to 2027 is new enough that its label is still the plain Alpha-Beta cusp. Birth years near any other boundary get a simple two generation cusp label instead of a nickname.
No single official body defines them. The postwar baby boom of 1946 to 1964 is the only range with a widely used statistical definition; the others follow the Pew Research style splits most journalism and marketing rely on, extended here with a 2025 start for Generation Beta.
In this table 1996 is the last Millennial year and 1997 the first Gen Z year. Both sit inside the Zillennial window, so the finder shows the cusp label alongside the strict answer. If your cultural references line up better with the other side, treat the strict label as a filing convention rather than a verdict.
Researchers anchor the cuts to different events, such as remembering 9/11, smartphone adoption, or recession timing, so a one or two year spread at every boundary is normal. The finder handles the fuzziness by flagging anyone within two years of a line as a cusper.
It adds fixed ages to your birth year: 16, 18, 21, 25, 30, 40, 50, 65, and 80, each mapped to a calendar year. A 1997 birth year, for example, turns 65 in 2062.
The birth year arithmetic works anywhere, but the labels and artifacts are US in origin and lean Anglophone. Other regions define cohorts around local events, so read the artifact lists as one cultural sample rather than a universal checklist.
